IC443 Jellyfish Nebula in SHO

A little late to the party, but as they say, better late than never.

This one is another that has been on my list for quite a while, and while this summer has been horrendous for astrophotography here on the East coast, I've managed to collect barely enough data to make an image or two.

On inspecting the final stack for this data, I'm a bit miffed at how "unclean" it looks. It might be partly from too low of an SNR, or because it passes through my local light dome.

I've got around 8 hours of data at f/5 in this image, but I desperately want to add 2-3 times as much data to clean up that SNR. But that might be an endeavour for next year.

However, it is quite refreshing to come across an object that is strongest in the Sulphur-2 channel, leading to a very psychedelic SHO combination.

Enjoy and Clear Skies!

Thanks Martin! I was really unsure of the rich colour palette, but this target lends itself to it, and it also helps to accentuate the rather unique composition. (being dominant in S2)

This is a great target! it's got a rich level of detail just hiding in the background waiting for more integration time to bring out.
