Another dob owner

Hello everybody. I discovered IIS while searching for info on dobsonians and have enjoyed browsing your friendly, informative forum ever since. Congrats on an excellent site!!

Was having trouble deciding which scope to buy, but reading what you guys and gals had to say has helped a lot, and I'm now the excited owner of a 10" GSO (Bintel Premium) dob. As well as extra light-gathering, I wanted a more easily movable arrangement than the C8, but wasn't sure if that was possible, so thanks Mike for your transporting trolley idea - exactly what I was looking for! Next step is to get my head around the collimation process. The scope arrived well collimated so haven't needed to tweak anything yet.

Have only had two short observing sessions so far, but wow and wow! - Venus, Jupiter, Sombrero Galaxy in Virgo, the Jewel Box cluster, the Swan Nebula, the Lagoon Nebula (I think), Omega Centauri, and galaxy Centaurus A (NGC 5128) - what a buzz. Looking forward to hunting down many more DSOs and seeing the Orion Nebula thru the new scope. Hope I can resolve the Horsehead ...

I never cease to be amazed by the wonders of our universe.

Hi Sue!
Welcome to the forums, and thanks for saying hi! You've made a great purchase with the 10" dob, and the premium model is well worth the extra for the focuser alone.

Hope to see you come back and contribute often!

hi sue!
nice chioce of scope there
as for the horse head, dont let anyone tell you it cant be done! I have been trying for a while now from home in my 8" and sometimes i see nebulosity around the area so i figure its just a matter of time (and exceptional seeing) before it pops out. a OIII filter should help tho if you have one

Thanks sue an oxygen three filter will not enhance the Horse Head Nebula HBeta filter is the one that does the best job,a good clear dark sky and good seeing are the prefered method for observing this object, so in the future if you can make your way upto my site you will have the best oppertunity to spot it.astroron

FWIW, It's a very expensive filter for such limited use tho. IMHO.
Now that will cause a stir.........

Your oppinion should not caurse a stir because its true, there are only a very few objects that are enhanced by a HBeta filter Ie the said Horse Head, I think the Califonia neb and one other that I cannot think of at the moment, at around $180:00 a pop I agree with you.
As I said in my prior a good clear dark sky and a good appature are the best way to see the Horse Head.astroron

Thanks for your welcomes and helpful comments. Re filters, we have a Lumicon UHC filter -and the sticker on its box mentions both OIII and HBeta, so it looks like it filters in both?? I have just come in from a great little observing session using it on the Omega, Trifid and Lagoon Nebulae ... just brilliant ... and I'm verrrry happy with my dob ...
