I have found over many years of observing that cloud cover is proportional to the significance of the event such that E = Cē. A partial eclipse of the Moon would see almost nil cloud cover and a transit of Venus would see total cloud plus rain.

Hi CosMos, I have also found that clouds are proportional to how desparately you want to try out that new piece of equipment you just bought.
I recieved a new LPI 2 week ago and not a clear night since.
Someone in another thread said "don't take it personally" but sometimes it's really hard not to

Know what you mean. I have found that the larger the mirror the more cloud it seemed to draw

The other important celestial phenomenon is the ability of the full moon to burn away the clouds. Once the moon is gone the clouds return.
