In the link there are 2 CCD cameras. One by Vixen & one by celestron. I was wondering about the Vixen: http://www.aoe.com.au/accessories1.html Specs for the vixen: Sensor: Ultra-sensitive 1/3"CMOS
Video Format: 24-bit
Shutter: Electronic controlled
Resolution: 640x480 Pixels: 300,000
Frame Rate: 30fps(CIF), 15fgs (VGA)
Minimum Illumination: 3 lux
S/N Ratio: Equals to 48dB or above
Aperture: 1.25" Power: USB (5V)
Operating Environment: 0-40ºC
Just weighing up my options here, not sure to go a toucam or one of these vixens.
The vixen BTW is about $115. The celestron $250 Specs for celestron: http://www.celestron.com/neximage/index.htm
I was reading a thread posted by you last night enquiring about this camera. Can't find your thread again, so I'm answering you in this one.
The cheapest I can find this Vixen CCD is $115 from AOE.....I'm trying to swing something ie: get one for review purposes. They sound ok to me, & their cheaper than a toucam. I'm not into getting hubble quality pics anyhow, so I can't see why one of these couldn't produce fairly good results on planets?
It's all about low-light sensitivity John. And also the ability you have in the driver to change the capture parameters, like gain, exposure, frame rate etc.
The ToUcam is a known quantity, for $145.
You could try the Vixen, but you could be wasting your money for the sake of $20-$30 savings. Just my opinion of course.
