Invested in another Canon L Glass
Hi Guys, Well what dose one do when confronted with a bargain price on a new Canon 50mm F/1.2L Lens.
The brains go out the window, and the hand into the pocket, or should I say wallet, well that is what I did this morning.
The offer was to good to let go, and I'm now the proud owner of some more serious L Glass, wow, that is some lens.
Thought I would just let you know.

Wow - that is one fast lens Leon; don't forget to leave some photons for us poor old F4 fellas!
Cheers

I will Dennis, I will, I promise, I think it will make some really awesome wide fields, and I will be using it also as the main happy snaps on the 5D.
I had a few test shots today, man, is it sharp.

Nice pick up Leon. I can't blame you for indulging on another Canon L lens.
I have got to get one myself.
Enjoy and post some happy snaps.

Thanks Matty, I intend to give it a bit of a work out at the Vic/South Star Party this month.

Nice purchase Leon, there's only one cure for spendthrift fever; spend your way out of it.
Just looked up the price on the 50mm F1.2L Leon, hurts just thinking about it.

Yea I know Phil, but I didn't pay that price, I have a very long a friendship with a owner/manager at our Camera House outlet here in Ballarat, and I got it a cost price, many hundreds off.

Nice Leon... I have the 50 1.4, I would be very interested to see some shots from the 1.2L.. Especially something showing the hair line focus depth..
Enjoy it mate... 5min subs of the milky way from dark skies should be spectacular through that.
Cheers.

Very nice leon - excellent pick-up.
Can I suggest Barnard's loop around Orion as a test shot!?

Excellent pickup Leon, you're going to love the 50L.
I've got the 85L and absolutely adore it !
Here's a shot I did with it on Rho Ophiuchus Neb Region.
The only thing to watch on these two lenses is that you have to get the focus critically spot on.
Even if you're only just very slightly off, you will get colour fringing around the stars, purple one way, orange/yellow the other way.
It really is critical on these two lenses more-so than other L lenses especially when using them close to wide open.

Thanks Andrew, I was not aware of that focus issue and will certainly keep that in mind, and as you say, it is truly a nice bit of glass.
That is a fine image Andrew, If I get close to that I will be very happy.
And to Ian, yea Alice knows about it mate, she waited in the car while I went in to pick it up, and had a good read of the box.
