Question Serial-to-USB adapter for DSC

Does anyone know where I can source a serial-to-USB adapter, suitable for use with Dave Ek type DSC? A local (Melbourne) source would be good but I'll take it from anywhere. Thanks.

Hi programmer,

have you had a look at the Bintel site?
If not, this link "should" be what you're looking for.

https://www.bintelshop.com.au/Product.aspx?ID=7043

Cheers.

Gee.. not sure why I didn't think of looking there Do you know if this is DSC 'suitable' (I'm guessing that's why they sell it!). Thanks for the tip.

I am thinking DSC you're talking about "Digital Setting Circles"?

I think that it is supposed to be aimed at people that use their USB only notebooks to communicate with their GOTO mounts, ususally to update firmware etc but also for remote control of the scope.
Don't take it as Gospel but i'd say that there would be no problem using it for anything that connection. Ask them at Bintel to be sure.

I see you're putting my old scope to good use! (at least someone finally is)

Hey good to hear from you!

Well, trying to put it to good use, only had 2 clear nights since I got it.. So lots of time to spend more money on 'stuff'. Damn I was at Bintel getting a Cheshire eyepiece and I knew there was something else I had to get. Looks like back there again. I'll call first though.

got one..

Well, I bought a cable from Bintel. I think I'm entering a world of pain here but anyway...

Has anyone successfully used a serial-to-USB cable with their digital setting circles? I'd be interested to hear from anyone, not just those with the David Ek design (but especially the latter, and especially with Vista!).

I'll save my long winded description of the steps I went through, in case anyone can cut the whole thing short, but basically I had little success (I did get some responses from DSC.EXE at some point, but it wasn't consistent).

Thanks in advance for any info.
