Canon 30D what do you reckon

Hi Guys,

Just wondering about the Canon 30D Body, dose anyone have one and what do you think of this unit for imaging.

I was talking to my trusty Canon Dealer, and personal friend, and was offered a brand new Canon 30D for $1450.00.

I had a look at the Canon website and they recommend a price of about $2300.00, so obviously that is a great saving, but i was wondering how this model performs at imaging.

If anyone could give me some info on this question, I would be very grateful.

Thank You

Leon

Leon,

do yourself a favor and get a Cooled DSLR from Yun at www.centralDS.net I promise you wont be sorry. it will be a 400D, but mate, the results will speak for themselves.

nothing against the 30D, it really depends what you want from the camera? if it is astro then you have seen the results Scott Got from my Cooled 350D!!

Hi Leon I just got the canon 30D couple weeks ago the body is a lot stronger then the others and is heavier too.
As for the camera itself what can you say its a canon and it is great.

For the price you mention the 30D is a bargain.
It's almost similar in performance to the 20D and robust and well made.

I made equerries to get the 20Da cooled but the guy can't do other models apart from the 350D or 400D because he's already setup for those.

If you want a cooled astro camera, order the cooled 400D from CentralDS or get a 2nd hand 350D and send it to him Leon.

Or stick with the 5D, it's awesome for astro work.

But at $1450 the 30D is very very tempting.

Thanks Andrew, it certainly is tempting, and it really is for a general back up Camera, and Houghy, I know what Bert and Andrew are talking about when it concerns the 5D, as I do have one of those already, It is nearly permantely attached to the Tak.

Thanks Guys

30d is pretty much allmost the same as a 350d just differences in the body and controls, i use a 30d for terriestrial photography, and i love it..

by the way the prices on 30d are lowering because there will be a replacement soon, but by all means that dosent mean it will become obsolete, it will still be far from obsolete.

Thanks Adrian, I have had a look, and little play with it and it certainly seems like quite a good functional camera.
