Autumn trip to Bretti. 9th,10th,11th and 12th May.
A couple of us from the Central Coast of NSW are thinking we should get up to Bretti like we used to a few years back and enjoy some dark skies and camping.
Bretti is Near Gloucester. About 30k’s up the Thunderbolt Road from Barrington.
If you look it up on Google…. Search for Bretti reserve or Bretti track.
If you are willing to come along you need to bring everything you need with you as the free camp is about 30 K’s from the nearest shop.
This includes water.
There are flushing toilets and drop toilets on site.
Hope to see a few there….

I love Bretti and my time spent there is a lasting memory. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience a true dark sky and the wonders that it reveals.
Alas for me, I can no longer attend due to health issues, but I look forward to Geoff's report.
I wish I was in a position to go, my late mother lived in Gloucester for many years and I was always fond of the town. I did a lot of driving and sight seeing as a teenager around the region, I even got bogged on an old bridge in Barrington Tops which was timber and mud. No railings either side and a teenager with a high powered Monaro (sadly lowered, didn't help my predicament) and my 4 younger sisters in the vehicle, a recipe for disaster.
I got smart and made my sisters get out and walk to a safe place away from the bridge and the possibility of the Monaro going out of control, dug under, put branches and crap and eventually got out though I did nearly put it over the edge. The next time my 15 year old sister told me she'd direct me I told her I'd use a map.
The long range weather prediction isn’t favourable for this trip for the dates selected. I will check closer to the date and make a decision if I go or not.
The weather still isn't playing the game for this trip I’m afraid.
I have been to Bretti in the past when it has rained a lot and it wasn’t fun.
I’ll make a decision Monday as to whether I go or not.
Next new moon is 6th June from memory. Maybe it’s better to try again then.
Hopefully it clears up for you Geoff. The rivers will certainly be up. I recall one trip where the crossing to the farm was impassible, and the water level was up past the gate at our and of the Reserve. Watching the Newcastle radar over the past few days it us pretty certain the area did get some rain. A couple of days of good sunshine should dry things out, if we get it. Lingering high humidity will probably bring fog down into the Reserve, so pray for a slight westerly (dry) breeze.
I have pulled the pin on my trip to Bretti sorry. Friends of ours have suffered with floods with the rising Wyong River waters, and need help to clean up after flood water covered their property at Dooralong.
