Hi to you all
It is has been a long time since the weather has been good enough to go to the trouble of getting out the gear here on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Last night was excellent. So, grandchildren have gone, gear all set up and ready to go. Calibrate the guider, polar align etc. (I’m not in the fortunate position of having a permanent setup).
Having already selected my single night’s target, I get SGP going and go to bed for a couple of hours.
Get up,check my images, all good. Do a meridian flip and continue on. Back to bed. What a great hobby when it all works.
Get up 2 hours later to check. What the ............
Laptop, mains connected, Windows 10, is still on but every program, SGP, PHD2, Eqmod, Stellarium, Stellarium scope have all stopped and are no longer open and running on the screen. The mount has not parked.
This has never happened before. WiFi is turned off, so no updating etc.
How can the laptop, which is way over powered for this and does nothing but Astro stuff, be on but all programs are off?
Sort of spoiled the night. Hope it’s a one off.
Never mind, it was wonderful to be able to look up and see all those stars.
Cheers
Greg
Is your laptop one that requires you to login with a username and password or is it setup to just go straight in. If the later then I would suggest it did in fact reboot, probably because windows decided to do an update and as there hadn't been any key presses it just assumed, correctly, that you had gone to bed.
Yep, decided to do an upgrade. I had the Wi-Fi turned off but I didn't realise that Windows 10 downloads and installs later.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Greg
Yup - win 10 is a sod for that. I got caught out too. Set your wifi connection up as metered and then the little b45t4rd will not download updates on the quiet and then install & re-boot when you are not looking.
