Improving A Skywatcher Crayford Focuser - Nice Vid!

Hey guys

Found this great video by AstronomyShed. Check out the poor contact points / lines before grinding!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofOSA...eature=related

I plan on doing this mod to my 10" Skywatcher Black Diamond Newtonian.

Not quite sure where to purchase an Oil Stone, bunnings perhaps?

Hope this helps someone out there.

Logie.

I did this mod on a single speed skywatcher refractor but in the end I'm not sure it made much difference. The focuser would still roll out if it was loaded with a heavy 2" eyepiece, whereas the gearing of the two speed focuser can hold more weight.

If the focuser tube is slipping against the shaft or if there are depressions (bumps) in the focuser it might be worth doing this mod.

Good call Martin, I was tempted to grind away with a file...

Thanks for the offer Ian. It's been a while since I visited the 'workshop'. Will give you a bell.

I agree Tony, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I might hold out until it gives me real grief. But it's good to know the mod is there if needed.

And a well document mod Steve. Another one to keep in mind.

Cheers

Thanks Logan!
I was thinking of buying a moonlight for my SW ed80 but will give this a go first and save me some $$$$.
I've got those lines and can feel a 'depression' between them.
Worth a go!
Cheers
