Eta @ 280mm Reprocessed (minimal Minimum Filter)

Hello all...
After being criticised constructively re my overuse of the PS minimum filter on this image, I decided to go back and retry.
Details as previous post...

Cheers Craig, Louie - any time I applied a minimum-type filter (smaller stars actions etc) and results looked stringy, then I would give up and start again!
That and the PS CS4 Smart Sharpen filter!!

Nice repro

The first was a little softer and more delicate looking (bit like me ) but otherwise this is a much better image Doug

Any sign of that minimum filter or similar (and it's easy to pick) and it ruins an image in my view.

Thanks Mike - I'm amazed when looking back over my other pics how much I have used the Min filter! So noticeable on higher res images.
Thanks to the comments/advice from IIS members I feel like I've been helped to turn a corner in my processing. A kick up the pants in other words!!!

Thanks Mike.
I'm all Eta-d out now.
Trying to draw the maximum detail from this FL and resolution can be like getting blood from a stone.
I'm off for a lie down and a Bex! (Make that Becks!!)

Boy,

Makes my attempt look a little feeble, Truly amazing image Doug!
I really can't explain to people the differing results you can achieve with the humble home laptop / pc in relation to processing astro photo's.

The learning curve continues.

Cheers Darren - your image is very good for the exposure time.
Remember, yours is a total of 12 mins while mine is 3 hours!
When you pull those exposures with your ED80 and EQ6, you'll be amazed at the difference. And, processing a wealth of data is much easier and more rewarding than trying to tease an image out of a few minutes worth of material.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Doug

That's a beautiful image Doug....
the whole area just jumps out at you.

Yeah, minimum filter needs to be selectively used and even then, set to 1 and fade at least by 50%.. any more things loose their vibrance, begin to look unnatural and mottled.

Great job.

All the best
Rich

So have another go at your Eta (but still drink the Becks)....I wont mind - love to see it
