Great stuff Dave. Looks like a good size floor area.
I've been up in my 'doghouse' tonight - never thought I'd get to go there with the westher lately.

Congrats Dave!

It's a very satisfying project to do!

BTW Al is looking rather experienced with that crowbar!

Good start David, nice to see your breaking ground at last.

Is it going to be 2 storey observatory? The holes look big enough to support it.

You won't know yourself when it's up and running.

the tent up over the holes reminded me a little of "Palmdale" Dave

(sorry folks - this could be regarded as a local joke)

A good start Dave and I like your choice of name for the Obs.

Your soil looks a lot easier to dig than mine, I've got solid rock after about 6 inches on my chosen site. Dynamite may yet be an option (LOL)

Looking forward to the progress reports.

Cheers

On ya Huff, I too am procrastinating about one, mulling it around the mind over the Christmas break. I have looked at all manner of garden sheds with the view to modifying them, but keep returning to a completely DIY job.
I'll watch this with great interest.

Looking forward to see how it comes together.

Great stuff David Finally!

What was SWMBO's objection that you had to overcome? Looks like an otherwise free corner of the yard?

A man has got to do what he has to do.
I wanted to put a 5" guage railway around the new house. I had one around the old house. I had even sited the house on the block so I could do this. However I settled for an observatory in the back yard as long as I dug a garden.

I will watch this with interest, Dave, looks like a dream come true!

I was chatting with my SWMBO over the weekend about getting an observatory set-up in our backyard. It followed a statement from her to the effect, "I know you want to move to a place away from city lights, but I will be so lonely I will have to slit my wrists, so it just can't happen". I seized the moment, and rather kindly offered the following, "I completely understand. If I set up an observatory in the backyard, we will both be happy." Her concession, then, went along the lines of, "I guess when we get the garage makeover we can put a dome on top".

I sense she is softening......
