Brown stuff in Corona Australis

Hi everyone,

Here's some brown stuff in Corona Australis:

It was rather hazy and shot low (late) in the sky, I might have another try next month.

Celestron 80 ED 600 mm f/7.5, Nikon D70 @ 800 ISO 6*640s +1*1140s. Autoguided with the Quickcam Pro and the Vixen GP DX.

Wow that's a stunning photo.. what's the NGC (or otherwise) # of the object? Is it one of bernard's dark nebula?

I have had NGC 6726/6727 and NGC 6723 on my "must do" list for a while..maybe one of these nights I can acquire my souvenier image

I was only reading about the corona australis area last night, wondering what would be a good choice for some imaging. Thanks for helping me decide.

Thanks for your comments.

There was a slight trailing in the RAW files, but I managed to process it away. And yes, it is NGC 6726/6727 (reflection nebulae) and NGC 6723 (globular cluster), the dark stuff is Be 157.

Can you share some knowledge - how did you remove trailing, this is something I need to do more often than not, currently I reject images but it would be good if it is possible to rescue a few...

That is absolutely fantastic Erwin. There is so much stuff in there to look at. I studied it for about 15 mins and was still in awe!!! What an amazing region.

Hi everyone,

It is an interesting part indeed, last year I did a shorter exposure with the C9.25 around the reflection nebulae and it showed a galaxy, an emission nebula, a dark nebula, a globular cluster and the dark stuff in one exposure.

I detrail in PSP6 by using the lightest combine and darkest combine commands, so to remove a slight trailing I make a copy from the original image and shift the copy by on pixel in a perpendicular direction of the trailing, and then do a image lightest combine. This way I also reduce the noise in the image a bit, but the resolution decreases.

Alternatively I can do an image darkest command with an in the trailing direction shifted copy instead to do the detrailing, but this increases the noise and resolution.

To maintain the same resolution I usually do a combination of both methods to get the best results.
