Astro crossword

Hi,

Here's my first presentable attempt at an astro xword. Tell me what you reckon, is it:

- too easy
- too hard (unlikely)
- not cryptic enough

I'll post the answers soon.

Cheers

Geoff, it was all too hard for me.
I think I had the answer to one or two.

Just right, I'd say.

Stuck for answers on 16 / 28 / 34 across and 2 / 17 (shame!) / 25 / 26 down.

Looking forward to the answers!

Hi,

Xwords are a bit of a favourite with me, although I'm not good at the cryptic ones.

I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea, and this is a bit of a stab at finding the right level, or indeed if there is enough interest generally.

If you are happy you have given it a good go as is, you can cheat with Google I do

There is even a scrambled word solver out there.

Cheers

Geoff,
It would be great if you keep this going...maybe a sticky like the photo comps? If you run out of ideas/questions ......I'm sure there would be a few out there willing to help ( including me)...

Hi,

If it is popular (definition: you and me ) I'd be happy to keep on. There is no shortage of potential questions to be generated, the main decision is how cryptic should the clue be. All the same, a team effort would be fun.

I have found the Windows app I am using goes best if there is an oversupply of words for it to rat through.

The idea I like too is not to cheese anyone off by making it too obscure.

Cheers

Hi Geoff,

Had fun doing this. Got 25 clues out of 36 without google.

Will finish with google.

I have to admit, number one across confused me till I twigged. Doh! Got caught again. I always forget the Sun.

Thanks for that, I love crosswords.

Good one Geoff. I haven't tried it yet but I will. I've got a few cryptic astro crosswords, and a few specialist astro crosswords here somewhere too:

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=45084

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ead.php?t=9901

I suspect some of mine might have been too hard but eclipse crossword does a great job doesn't it?

If you're interested in sharing/expanding clue libraries, I am.

Al.

Thanks Al,

Yes, we should. Xwords will never sweep all before them here unless we can stick them on everyone's objectives somehow , but I like mucking around with them.

Here is the solution (scanned for viruses).

Cheers

I just attempted this and have it about half done. I'll try again when I'm not so tired and should get a few more. I already know that I won't get 1 down. I'll look at the answers in a few days.

I mucked around making astro cross-words about 25-30 years ago. Fully manual of course. The questions tended to get a bit obscure when I was 'filling in the corners'. The occasional (accidently) miss spelt word added to the degree of difficulty . Fortunately I don't think any copies survive.
