IC 2631 reflection nebula.

The southern circumpolar sky is considered to be a drab area.

There is however the faint Chameleon I association. Within this extensive area is the reflection nebula IC 2631 which makes an interesting contrast with the dust from the association.

I'm not sure if IC 2631 is part of the association or is a foreground object.

Imaged with a BRC-250 and ST-X10ME.

you guys (yourself, mike, tom, jase) all seem too be able to find all this dusty stuff, it never turns up on my images..... is it everywhere? and its just the depth of processing or is it isolated and you just know where it is?

Hello Clive,

It's a case of knowing where to look.

The shadow/highlight command in Photoshop does a good job in bringing out the faint dust without affecting brighter objects.

I was just looking at this patch of sky(1 deg south of IC2631) in WWT the other day thinking "this would look good in an image".

Nicely captured Steven, these elusive dust clouds may not glow brightly but they're just as spectacular.
