RJ10 connectors

does anybody have for sale, or know where I can obtain a couple of RJ10 connectors so that I can try and make a cable to go between the mySky and the Telescope RJ 11 and RJ45 apparently just won't do.

Maybe there is an answer in this thread, Arthur?

You also need access to the right tool? I borrowed one from a friendly IIS member - actually, I used it at his place.

Hi Arthur

I made a cable a couple of months ago with parts from Dick Smith. The only special part was the crimping tool. The plugs are standard modular connectors which sometimes go under the name of RJ10, RJ11, RJ12, RJ45.
The ones required here are a 4p4c (RJ11 series) and a 6p6c or 6p4c (RJ12 series): Below is an attached document with construction details

cable

Thankyou for that link Barry, I think I need a slightly different cable config as I have the Autostar 497 on an LXD75 8"S/Newtonian the chart shows the LX200 Autostar 2 setup.

I think the wiring diagram is available and says it's a 4p4c to 4p4c with 1->1,2->2;3->3 and 4->4 (sounds to easy).

Do you think the RJ10s and 11s are interchangeable?

Hi Arthur,

The RJ10 is the small plug that most Phone handsets use. (4P4C).
The RJ11 & 12 are larger.

Some suppliers call the 4P4C an RJ11, so you need to check that it is a 4P4C when buying.

RJ11 and RJ12 are the connections to the phone line (From the wall socket).
RJ11 has positions for 6 connections, but only uses 4 (6P4C)
RJ12 is the same size, by uses all 6. 6P6C)

See here: (Midway down)
http://ckp.made-it.com/connectorchart.html

I have some here at work, if you have problems obtaining them.
Can't find any in the Dick Smith catledog.
May be able to make up a cable for you?

Regards
Paul.

Hi Again,

If the cable has a 4P4C plugs at both ends and is wired one-to-one, as you state, then all you need is a Telephone handset curly-cord.
Provided that all for pins are wires (Some only have the 2 centre pins connected.).

If that is all you need, I have a stack of 1m long cables here.

Paul.

Hi Arthur

I think you misread the diagram one end of the cable is a 6p6c (6pin RJ12)the other end is a 4p4c (4pin RJ11). A telephone cord is not suitable. The connections to the LXD 75 should be the same as the LX200. The 497 hand box uses the same protocol as the Autoastar 11 for all the connections you need. The 494 (as supplied on many of the simpler meade telescopes) is different however and the you must use the 494 type computer cable.

Hi Arthur,
I may have some 6-pin connectors in my workshop.
If you get hold of some 4-pin phone cords, and I can find my crimper and the connectors, I will gladly cut one end off the 4-pin cable and fit the 6-pin connector for you when we next meet on the Mountain.
I will let you know here over the weekend if I have any luck.

CAble for My Sky

Hi again Arthur,

I found some 4 and 6-pin connectors, some cable and my cable crimper. They were buried under stuff in my workshop like eveything else.

If you can tell me the pin connections you need, I can make up a lead for you.

It will have a 4 pin connector at one end, and a 6 pin connector at the other ( 4-core cable only )

I believe I use the centre pins only on the 6-pin end, but I need the connections. ie: 1 to 1......... 2 to 2 etc ?

It will cost the grand total of a six-pack next time I see you. And maybe a test run with the My Sky on my LX200. if the cable is the same....

Look forward to hearing from you.

Geoffro.
