I was at the ASV public event with my C11 (and first light!). There were about 20 scopes set up, at one time my wife counted 35 people in the queue to look through mine with similar numbers at many of the other scope plus a number of people just standing around, so I would estimate we had at least 300 people there at the peak.
The early stages were clouded out, so I kept "my queue" entertained by swinging the scope around to the city and zoomed in on the Medina Hotel...couldn't see anything interesting though
Then the cloud started to lift and I swung back. Unfortunately with the XW-30 the Moon almost completely filled the view, causing some people to remark "I can't see anything" so I moved it slightly off centre to make the edge and a couple of stars visible.
I think everyone who attended had a great time and although we were there for 4 hours the time seemed to pass very quickly. The laser came in handy pointing out Jupiter, the shape of Scorpius and how to use the pointers and Crux to find south. Perry of course did a wonderful job keeping the crowd informed. If the sky had been clear from the start I think we would have had a couple of hundred more. The 20 scopes we did have was barely adequate for the number of people, even 30 would have still left very long queues!
