Public Lunar Eclipse events to attend

Are you holding a Lunar Eclipse event on the 28th August?

Post here any 'Lunar Eclipse Public Gatherings' you are holding so other members and site visitors will know where to attend.

I'll go first.

Snake Valley Astronomical Association

Where: 'Snake Valley Community Hall' Car Park, right in the centre of Snake Valley.

When: Commencing 6:30p.m.

We will also have a 12" Telescopes on site.

I would love to take my 2 scopes to my Grandchildren's school, they are having an astronomy month.
But unfortunately, here in Qld, they have outlawed things like this unless I have a "Blue Card" .
I understand the need for them, to keep kids safe from pedophiles and other nasty characters, but when teachers and parents are there also, I am at a loss as to why the law is so strict.
I will get a blue card, but it will be too late for the eclipse I think.

Mike.

The ASV is setting up a number of telescopes on the top level car park at Victoria Gardens (aka IKEA Richmond) for a "gold coin donation". If it looks cloudy, I might set mine up on the second from top level, that way if it rains I won't get wet I'm only half as dumb as I look you know

This is pretty central to most of Melbourne and should have adequate parking.

Details are still being worked out but the usual sidealk astronomy thing I do in conjunction with local council's full moon "Moonwalk" program (on, or near, actual full moon) may include a public "lunar eclipse" component this time around. I'll post again when things have been sorted out.

Hey Mike,

That's not quite true, if you are a guardian of a child in that school you do not need a blue card to work at that school, you would be well within your legal rights to attend, if in doubt google child protection and look at their web site, it is quite clear on this. I have a blue card so i can attend schools with my astronomy which I do quite a bit.

cheers, Dennis.

Hi all,

The ANU Black Hole Society is holding an observing event for the night. There will be two telescopes on hand to view through - a 10 inch Schmidt-Newtonian and an 8 inch dobsonian.

Where: Regatta Point, Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra, ACT.
When: 6:30pm to late.

Please bring yourselves and if you have binoculars or telescopes, feel free to bring those as well.

Cheers,
Silvie

Lunar Eclipse Public Viewing Far North Coast

Last weeks 1st qtr viewing was a washout but the skies have cleared and we are looking forward to a cloudless evening, just like for sidewalk astronomy night.
We will be at Brunswick Heads on the terrace reserve betwen the road bridge and the foot bridge from about 6pm.We are encouraging visitors to bring their digital cameras to take pics through the telescope. We will also have some animations and movie clips on the Moon and Eclipses in general.
Any extra scopes of course are welcome!

Warren Taylor will be setting up at main beach Byron Bay if you are down that way

Haven't heard of any public events. I might head to Mount Cootha, Brisbane with my binos. Looking forward to seeing the tourists reaction to the eclipse.

I'll be setting up on the shores of Tuggerah Lake, near the shops at Berkeley Vale (on Lake Edge avenue).

Any locals around the area are welcome to come and look through my scope between photos

Mount Cootha sounds like a good idea to setup! Unless there is anything else going on around the place???

Think I'll take my 5" scope
