Snake Valley Double up in August

The 'SVAA' August Friday night get together has a double bonus this time around.

Due to there being 2 Friday nights in a row with approx 5% Moon, we will be having 2 consecutive Friday nights at the SVAA.

Feel free to come along to either or both.

10th August, and 17th August, both commencing at around 7pm.

Feel free to stay over in the warm clubroom

Probably not, Mike. Tuesdays nights are a bit hard for people to travel far.

What I would like to do is set up in the middle of our small town and getting the locals to come have a look, but right in the centre of town doesn't have an Easterly view. I might have to have a talk to the school Principle and see if I can use their sportsground. It's in the centre of town but has a bit more Easterly view.

There will be no SVAA club night Tonight (Friday 10th August) due to the severe weather conditions.

Forecast is for showers, stong wind - Gale Force at times.

Presently at 1:52pm it is 60% cloud and strong to Gale Force wind.

I wouldn't recommend Melbourne folk come up.

weather woes

Ken,

Thanks for the ground zero report.

That sounds like even more than the Brass Monkey Astronomical Society membership can handle.

By the way, who is Gale? What's she got to do with the weather?

Tomorrow night showing any promise?

Scott

Just as well I cancelled tonight! We would have all been blown away!!!

The wind has not eased up, and I can hear the tin banging on the roof of mine and the neighbours house, the fences are banging, and the wind sounds like the roar of a jet engine!!!!!! And that is listening to it from inside the house.

I just went outside to check for any damage and it is DANGEROUS out there!!!!

Stay safe all, and as Rick says: "OK, now everyone let's have positive thoughts for the 17th..OOooohhmmmm..."

Yes, just as well - my scope didn't come with an anchor!

Melbourne had some wind, nothing too furious, and some showers.

Of course, I look out my office window this morning - blue sky - a few wispy clouds!! Grrrrr! I did get about 50 mins viewing last night up the Dandenongs - the session included some rain to start and about 2 hours cloud cover!

(Edit - two hours later and I feel better - overcast and raining! )

Clear now

At 437pm, outside my office window in Box Hill, it looks clear.

There is no justice in the universe. The only nebulosity I've seen in 6 weeks has been in MY planet's atmosphere....grrrrrr.

I'm starting to get a sad feeling about Friday night's weather. Please keep us posted, Ken - I need to make a decision Thursday night since I have someone to bring along.

Ken, my apologies, I won't make it to SVAA tonight. Weather forecast too bleak - especially as I was going to bring someone - standing in the rain and wind looking for sucker holes with binoculars will not impress!

Yep, it's not looking good Eric. I was just in the weather site and it still says rain and cloud tonight

It is very cloudy and drizzly at the moment, but this link shows what is coming tonight. A big band of rain: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDE00902.loop.shtml

Snake Valley Sat Night?

In the off chance that Sat looks good, would you be at the oval, if I came up?

I need to give you my membership form and fee, too.

Scott

Scott, I can be there. Just give me a ring before you leave for a weather update.
