Last time I looked at this, you can't grid connect wind power in Qld. That was a couple of years ago. May have changed.
I backed away anyway after I looked into it a bit. Even though we're in what I would call and exposed and windy location up here, the speed of the wind was just not enough to warrant the investment. I installed a weather monitor station that recorded wind speeds, directions etc for a year and then had a look at the startup speed most turbines seem to need to get going and my reading of the data was that we were just marginal at best.
The wind speedos usually quoted in metres per second (9 mps or so was not unusual for many brands of turbine) and that works out to be close to 32 km/h. That a fair sort of blow and to generate meaningful power, you need that blowing more often than not.
Anyway, that's why I backed away.
