Thanks Laurie and Rob

What a day it's been, we've had cloud rain clear sky cloud rain again and now it's trying to clear up. Funny enough you welcome the rain because its so humid that the rain drops cool you down.

Clouds and Bats

Here's a live shot a few moments ago ... its raining and the sky's awash with what I think are fruit bats making their way to the hill tops for the evening, quite a spectacle to see (not properly captured in my image though).

I'm in Mackay at the moment, heading up to Cairns tomorrow. Is the entire states highway system undergoing roadworks at the same time?

/facepalm

YES! Expect delays at proserpine, lots more road works between mackay and townsville...

also road works between ingham and cardwell and about 50k south of cairns aswell...

So add at least 2-3 hours from mackay to get to cairns!.... sorry for the bad news. I just travelled up to cairns from townsville today!

Drove up from Mackay today and yes roadworks all along the Bruce Highway, but the traffic was light and flowing pretty well. Took about 9 hours driving time. ps we left at 6.00am and a lot of traffic controllers near Mackay were still setting up for the day.

The worst of it was between about north of Gympie and south of rockhampton, that just added hours to the trip... I will leave early tomorrow morning though and see how I go, at least the long parts of the journey are done. Sydney -> Bris and Bris -> Mackay.
