Thought I'd post this separately from the thread about opthalmologists.
CSIRO are selling eclipse glasses on their Parkes website:

Direct quote:
"These cardboard Eclipse glasses are safe for direct solar viewing of solar eclipses, sun spots and other solar phenomenon."
They also specifically mention the forthcoming eclipse and the annular one next year.
So there is clearly no official CSIRO policy on not recommending them.
