Honey Eater midflight

I was doing some photography at Blackheath Rhododenrum Gardens this afternoon when I saw this amazing little bird. He could hover around flowers and then stick his beak in and get the nectar.

Nikon 800E, Pentax 67 165mm F2.8 lens.

Manual exposure, 1/250 sec ISO100. Processed in Nikon Capture NX2 and slightly in Photoshop CS2:

Greg,

Lovely birds - the sheen on their feathers is something else !
Eastern Spinebill I think - they love the 2m high kangaroo Paws that grow outside my place
Have you got a front on shot ?

Thanks Rally. I thought someone would know what it is.

I took quite a few photos. Most of the time the bird somehow managed to get some flowers or a branch in between me and himself! But there are a few showing him. I'll find one.

Greg.

Certainly looks like one to me. The long curved beak is a give-away.

Well captured shot though at 1/250 you will never quite freeze the motion.
