GMT's demise..........

Just sorting some of my 160,000 images from the last 30 years this evening , I came upon some I took a few years ago at Mt Stromlo including these very sad ones of the GMT after the devastation that obliterated so much history;



somewhere in these 2 cubic metres of negatives and prints there should be a few rolls taken at Stromlo in the 70's and 80's including the Oddie being used, I will keep searching

Alas, Phoenix is rising out of the ashes, I believe the restoration is proceeding well in Melbourne. Once restored, the Great Melbourne Telescope will be housed at the original Melbourne Observatory at the Botanic Gardens.

Sourcing a new mirror is probably their biggest hurdle, there are a couple of secondhand ones about but would need to reground to the correct focal ratio.
