WOGT-81 APO Focus Problem

Does anyone know why I would not be getting focus in my 80mm william optics refractor if I put the eyepiece directly in the end of the scope instead of using a 90 degree upright, or a 45 degree prism?

I have tried a few times with different eyepieces to get the scope to focus and can't get near it. Is this because the scope is meant for photography instead of visual observing?

Because it is designed to have a diagonal, you need to use an extension tube to make up for the extra length normally provided by the diagonal to be able to use it for straight through viewing
