Mice and Electro-Magnetic Interference

Hi

My wireless desktop mouse just had an interesting encounter with the effects of EMI/EMC (Electro-Magnetic Interference/ Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) from my notebook computer AC adapter.

Symptoms:
The cursor of my wireless mouse suddenly slewed to a crawl and responded erratically to physical movements of the mouse.

Cause:
I had just attached my notebook computer to the router and placed the notebook mains adapter in line of sight between the desktop wireless mouse and the mouse docking station.

Cure:
Move the notebook mains adapter some 12” away, not in line of sight and normal behaviour of wireless mouse restored.

Cheers

Dennis

PS – In the mouse installation guide, it does mention avoiding placing the mouse near radiating sources.

When this happened, my hypersensitivity to Trojans, malware etc. made me hit the modem standby button to kill the broadband connection, before I realised what the real cause was!

Phew!
