Terzans 9,10+11 with IR

SPX350 F4.53, ATK-16HR, Baader RGB+Astronomik IR742nm filters.

Tried some more obscure Terzans over Winter to compare RGB with IRGB and contrast is certainly improved in Sco/Sag dusty areas, cutting through the orange glow. Interesting to see IR stars switch on at 742nm but not show much in Red broadband.

RGB=8x3min each.
IR=8x5min.

In order Terzan 9, 10 +11 showing IR IRGB first then R RGB.

Thanks, John.

They look good John. The best way to do IR though is with the full range of Astrodon IR filters. They aren't cheap though.

Cheers

Terrific work John – very interesting and revealing comparison between the IR IRGB and R RGB images.

Cheers

You are right Steve (your UKS1 result is good proof) but I use IR so infrequently and the one filter does a decent job.

The IR can give large star sizes and so is best combined with Red like Ha rather than as shown. Lifting that dust is just so tempting especially after Stevec35 new Globular find near UKS1, unfortunately my sensor is too small.

I now have 4 Terzans left to image save for next year.

John.

Awesome images John, and great to see the direct comparison between IR and L. Some of those stars really shine in IR but are just invisible in L, very interesting.

Very cool shots John. I too like to flicker bewteen the two. I got an IR filter a while ago after checking your shots. Haven't had a chance to use it yet though.
