Two more from the Qld Astrofest

I have been pretty well trying to avoid imaging the mandatory targets, M20, M16 etc. Not that I have had much success with the other objects , however I had to do something until my targets were in a better position. Here is my attempt at M20 and M21, and the Eagle Nebula.

M20 (the Triffid Nebula) and M21 in Sagittarius from the Queensland Astrofest on 16/08/2012. NEQ6 mount, Williams Optics 110mm Megrez @ f4.76, fl 523mm, Canon Modded 450D (Baader IR/UV cut filter), 20 x 5 minute sub-frames (1 hour 45 minutes total), ISO 800. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker with 20 Dark frames, 20 Flat Fields, and 20 Bias frames, levels and curves processed in PhotoShop CS5, cropped 20%.

M16 (the Eagle Nebula) in Serpens Cauda from the Queensland Astrofest on 18/08/2012. NEQ6 mount, Williams Optics 110mm Megrez @ f4.76, fl 523mm, Canon Modded 450D (Baader IR/UV cut filter), 20 x 5 minute sub-frames (1 hour 45 minutes total), ISO 800. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker with 20 Dark frames, 20 Flat Fields, and 20 Bias frames, levels and curves processed in PhotoShop CS5, cropped 20%.

Very tidy shots Tony - you've got the blue nebulosity surrounding the Triffid!!

They're a pretty pairing alright, M20 and M21. Lovely! If possible though I reckon you can pull more star colour out of it.
And wow there is so much outer nebulosity with your Eagle.

Yeah I know... more data I reckon. Sigh... 11 months and 5 days until next Astrofest

Thanks David, I'm pretty happy with this shot too and once again more data can only improve it. I'm getting better disciplined at staying with my targets, although I tend not to gather many objects despite the long hours and nights at the scope. To be fair, after settle the kids and mucking around with the gear in restarting each night, I rarely gather photons before 10:00... on a good night .

Nice images, Tony! I think the only way to get enough data is to have a permanent observatory under good skies

Thanks Robert, very happy with the tracking and weather... still taking baby steps with the processing.
