Interval timer question

I have a sonvel MC series timer remote controller for my canon 350D that I want to use to trigger an ir remote for my Sony nex5. I've successfully wired an IR remote to trigger when i use a canon remote switch , but cannot get it to trigger with the timer remote control. When I place a multimeter across the timer remote , the resistance change during switching is about 300 ohms open to 3 ohms closed compared to infinite ohms open to 0 ohms closed for the simple canon remote switch. Are all timer remotes like this?can someone test theirs for me to see if they get similar results?
Regards Philip
