Stars and dust in Circinus

Hi all, here is another often overlooked patch of sky with a very interesting dark nebula over a bed of stars. Sandqvist 169 snakes across a glittering field of bright Milky Way stars in the constellation of Circinus. It forms the western part of the giant Circinus Cloud complex, which filamentary appearance is likely to be the result of multiple outflows from young stars, whose formation might have been triggered by a supernova that exploded in close proximity to the cloud. The Circinus Cloud has been the subject of very few detailed studies, hence its distance is extremely uncertain and is estimated to be 2275 light years.

The Circinus Star Forming Complex

This one is a 26+ hours HaLRGB composition, even if there is very little Ha but I hoped to detect some HH objects, but in fact I didn't succeed.
The dark silhouette of the nebula reminds me a kind of black devil flying, it is only me seeing this?

Clear skies
Marco

Very cool, Marco! It does look sinister. Reminds me a bit of LDN 673.

Cheers,
Rick.

There are a few pictures that you open and your jaw drops. That's one of them - definitely wow factor. Love the contrast and field colours.

Wow some serious exposure time there Marco with a great result...I remember when I did my three consectutive nights on Cen A back in 08 and was quite proud of the effort then...this seems to be common place or even verging on a short exposure now with you guys that have permanent setups ...

Yes I can see the devil, amazing dark structures, I would have called it the The Flying Demon Nebula

Thanks Mike, this was more or less the name I had in mind Having a permanent setup gives you the luxury to take advantage of any clear night, exposing to reach the aperture limits.. Missing the real sky over my head though

An amazing photo Marco.

The detail is so striking.

Such long exposures!

Also, another new object for me.

Thank you.

Ross.

A great image yet again Marco, very nicely done! And a fine writeup too, very informative. Thanks for the view.
It seems you catched a carbon star as a bonus, a little towards the lower left from the middle.
