Which powered USB hub to buy?

I have CGEM outside with cameras and things attached and computer in house 8 metres away. I want to put a powered USB hub 4 meters from mount and then run 5 metre cables to hub from computer.

Will this work? Which hub is best?

I'v used a couple of generic Dick Smith ones and although they are Ok, they can be unpredictable when unplugging/plugging a lot. Also they kept reloading the driver software each time I plugged it in (to an older laptop).
I also had issues running PHd via a USB hub- had to put other stuff through it and PHD into a port on the laptop to ensure good connections.
I am interested in this thread too as tempting to go down the Hitec astro route but keen on other suggestions too.

If you want trouble free operation over really long runs (up to 100m!) and utilising just a single cable, then I'd strongly recommend one of these:

Costs a bit more than a hub and repeater cable, but is hassle free and just works, and provides plenty of power.

What ever hub you get ensure it is powered and has Vusb current limiting.

Also might be nice to go USB3, better bandwidth.
