#505 connector cable

Does anyone know of a place to purchase the meade #505 connector cable for the autostar controller. Thanks

Bintel will have one, although it's also easy to make. There's a diagram here

I found the easiest and cheapest solution was to make one.

All you need is a standard telecom 4 wire cable with the modular plug,( check that they have 4 shining wire connectors in the plug, some only have two!) a female D9 connector and body.

The above reference gives the correct wiring. Cut one modular end of the telecom cable and bare the wires.

Looking at the end of the modular plug with the locking tab at the bottom , number the wires 1 thru 4 from the LHS, then 1 goes to 3 on the BD9, 2 to 2 and 4 to 5 on the DB9...... that's it.
Mine worked first time. Cost about $3.50

I tried to this but couldn't find the right size rj socket. The one I tried is the spare connector hole in the bottom in the controller, is this the right one? It is smaller than a normal phone plug. I took the controller to **** smiths and a few other electronic store and they couldn't match up a plug. They said it was a non standard plug and they would not be able to get one. Thanks guy I appreciate the help

The plug is an RJ10. All you need do is get the plug from a handset so long as it's only a 4 pin one.
You could also try jaycar that's where I got mine from.

The plug is an RJ11 standard connector (4 pin), I use them every day, they're the ones that are on the curly (edit Telephone) handset cord. It's not a lot of use buying the plug without access to a crimper.

Acropolite, you don't need a crimper if you find the right cable, just cut one end off and solder the wires to the DB8

You can indeed cut one end off, however, some cables are a tinsel/cotton combination and don't take too well to soldering. The ones with stranded wire are OK.

I used a dremel and actually made the more common cable smaller by shaving some plastic off both sides :-) (mainly because I couldnt be bothered going to the shops to get one) But it is probably easier to just buy the right one in the first place.

What you are looking for is the RJ12 6Pin/4Colour (6P/4C) extention cable, I know as I have made one of these 505 connection for my own scope. These are avaliable at D Smith, Jaycar, Tandy, Bunning, $2 Shops etc. These extention can be either 4 core or 6 core but mostly 4 core for generally home telephone use.

D Smith also sell the female D9 connector and body. If you follow the instruction that where provided early in this discussion you will not have any problems make the 505 connection.

Note that the handset spiral cable uses the RJ45 8p

Sorry I may have caused some confusion here. I was referring to the RJ11 connectors on a curly telephone handset cord on a not the curly handbox cord. The cord that meade supplies for the 505 connector cable is a 4 pin RJ12 on one end to a 4 pin RJ11 on the handbox end. If it all gets too hard PM me and I'll make one up and send to you.

Thx guys for your help. With the information you gave me I was able to find a cable from a friends old phone. Built it today and is working fine
