Missed it by "THAT MUCH"

Hi Guys, the RAAF are having war games in Darwin, hence i spent about 5 hours at the end of the runway and watched in awe as they came in and went out, very nice afternoon.

Here are a couple of action shots, and I just missed the Moon, "buy that much"

Great shots Leon. 1 and 8 are fantastic.

What I would give for a blue sky - Melb hasn't had clear skies for several weeks.

Clear skies

Nice shots Leon. Love the formation fighter jets near the moon. In this case i reckon close enough is good enough. Great caps.

Lovely shots Leon,I love the F 15 Eagle, only Israel and U.S have these fighter jets,I like the one with landing gear down, and seeing the missiles, think they are sidewinders.

Fantastic shots.

More than just RAAF there. F-15 Eagles (USAF) and SU-27s as well. And those Hercules ain't RAAF. I can't see the roundels that clearly, but I'm guessing Indonesian for the SU-27s and Hercs? (Australia recently gave 4 "retired" C-130 Hercules to Indonesia, but I don't know if they're in service yet).

Edit: Someone already picked the F-15s. That'll teach me to spend too long googling roundels!

Hi Leon,

I love those shots. They're so clear, and the detail you can see is amazing.

Could you please tell me what lens you used, and a bit about the settings?

Nice shots Leon. When I was up in Darwin a few years ago, I remember seeing a few Hornets take off and was blown away at how loud they were!

Thanks guys yep they are loud alright, great to watch, i reckon those guys must get out of their machines with a pretty big grin on their face.

Paul I used a Canon 70-200mm F2.8L Lens, set at 200mm @ F/11 and ISO at 400, the buggers were pretty low at times, and one could feel the wind as they passed over.

What speed setting Leon? The C-130 looks wonderful heading towards the camera. All very nice.Where exactly is this location?I think you mentioned a caravan park near a runway(military?) in the N.T last year.

Hi Chris, speed was 1250/sec at F/8.0 on AV @200mm.

We are not in a Caravan Park, we are about 15 Ks out of Darwin heading South along the Stuart Highway.

The place we are in is part of a Polo Cross Complex and we have so much room with three large ovals and heaps of shady trees.

About 3 Ks from the runway, but i head out most days and spend some time right on the end of the Air Strip
