I really shouldn't watch these things, all it does is make me disappointed; disappointed that countries would rather spend the money on war over research, exploration and even colonization. Our country is just as bad - I'd love to see how much of our budget went to research and further development. I'm waiting for the mining boom to finish just to watch the economy downturn, the anger and the frustrations.
And yet all i can do is sit here and watch and dream.

Agreed, this vision thing is so incomprehensible to our politicians who are stuck in a 24hr news spin cycle.
Then again, we the public are not interested in something that doesnt involve a D-list celebrity, or something with insantanous feedback. And anything remotely resembling a scientific debate is quickly hijacked by vested interests and radio shock jocks.
As the saying goes, we get the politicians we deserve.
Sad.

I have been watching in awe the achievements of space exploration and also in dismay in the reduction of funding over my 40 odd years.
We (as a population) are so transfixed on today and what we can get out of it and bugger tomorrow - hard but true!
The one point I always make to the people that poo poo space exploration and their perceived cost / return opinion - we are going to need a place to live one day!
