Saturn Jul14 fair seeing - Jupiter less so

Hi
The clouds relented and one short period of seeing was good enough to get a reasonable image of Saturn through the edge of the jetstream. It's a fairly noisy image, but it was great to get some clear sky again.
Jupiter fine detail was removed by the atmosphere at 24deg altitude, but with heavy processing, there is an indication of the current chaotic state of the EZ.
thanks for looking. Regards ray

Ray,

Nice image for fair veiwing, I must say very jealous as I had poor viewing last week and all this week has been rain and cloud. Cant wait to get the scope out again for some of my own veiwing.

Hi Carl. thanks for the comment, it sure is frustrating when the weather intervenes. for interest, have added Jupiter from this morning.

Both good images Ray. It's going to be a tough season in Aus for Jup, but you are off to a good start 8-)

thanks Troy. it's definitely going to be hard work this apparition, especially from down here - Quark recently got some good images though, so it can be done. regards Ray

Well done Ray, it seems even though Saturn is still so well placed, the seeing just doesn't want to cooperate. As for Jupiter, I think you have done a fine job for the alt, revealing considerable detail.

Regards
Trevor

Thanks Trevor. The recent seeing has been dominated by fast flicker that is beyond the capability of the software to stack out. Jupiter is also smeared vertically by differential dispersion, so its all a bit hard this year. Waiting on delivery of a dispersion corrector - see if that helps. regards ray
