Hi Ron,

Staggering to imagine the amount of material involved.

I have been up-close and personal next to smaller ones in the Karakorams in Pakistan
and when you get that mixture of permafrost and rock, it can pour down in what appears
to be a concrete slurry. But when I say smaller, imagine a thousand or so cement mixers
pouring their loads out all at once down a slope.

But this landslide in Alaska is several orders of magnitude larger than that!

There is no clip of the Alaska landslide as it went unwitnessed until after it
had happened.

The clip at the bottom of the link Ron posted was an earlier National Geographic feature and the text above
it reads "If you’re interested in learning more about landslides, check out this short video from National Geographic".

The clip is not of the landslide in the main article.
There are only photo's from a plane taken one month after the slide.

It doesn't surprise me, after all, it isn't a quiescent rock that we live on. What does surprise me is that people still build houses in very susceptible areas.
