Angry Petrol Prices!

139.9c/L in Sydney today

Where will it end!?

Cost me $50 to fill up my small tank in my Hyundai Excel this morning.. I remember when it cost $30 to fill the same tank!

It's going to drive up prices of meat, groceries, fruit etc.. inflation will surely be on the rise soon.

The only people benefitting from all of this are the overseas suppliers, the local oil companies and our state and federal governments
The rest of us can just go fish!!!!!

Petrol prices have literally doubled within recent memory! I think it's ridiculous. It's making driving out to a dark sky site quite an expense

I remember when I first bought my Pajero and filled it for the first time, it cost $52...they didn't put much petrol in new cars 15 years ago either. I quickly converted it to gas, I think the prices were something like 50c vs 21c...oh the good old days. When I sold it, the price of gas was not much less than it is now, but petrol was around 70c. Now it costs me more to fill the Hyundai than it would have cost to run the Pajero on petrol.... But if I convert the Hyundai to gas, I won't have enough room for the scope

When it runs out. I'd expect petrol prices to be going up till then. Probably over $1.50 by Christmas. But $1.60-$1.70 sounds more reasonable.

It's a world wide plot to stop the infestation of this planet by carbon based life forms! Or if you make it local, the government are promoting inbreeding of the species. OR they are promoting the use of petrol prior to the world release of a new Star Trek like "transporter". Geez this is fun! I could come up with a stack of these! Another world wide plot to reduce the travel between countries and hence lower the terrorist threat! The government are trying to reduce peoples savings so that they no longer live in the so called lucky country!

I rememeber being outraged when fuel hit all of 33c a litre back in the 70s.

If you think it's expensive now just wait till the USA has a go at Iran and or when peak oil hits in around 2012.

I remember back in the mid 70's when I started work, one of the guys I worked with had been working in his previous job on an internal combustion engine that ran on coal. It apparently pulverised the coal into a fine dust and injected it into some sort of combustion chamber. It is a pitty it hasn't taken off, you could store a months fuel when it is cheap in the garage! Or if you are going "off road" take a spare bag or two.

$1.68/L for 91 octane here in NZ at the moment. Gone up 12c in the last 2weeks! Madness.!
Makes the news daily.. Government coffers as also smilling as the tax take (about 41%) has also gone up, but our roads a still crap! Tax on pertrol should be fixed rather than a %.
My 2c (or perhaps 12c) worth.
Cheers

With the volume of fuel being purchased by the UK for a population some 3 -4 times the size Of Australia I attribute the price of around $2.00 - $2.40 AUD per litre to the local fuel companies and government duty. Not from the oil countries. Watch out Australia, we still have very favourable fuel prices here and I think the local suppliers are waking up to the profit they could squeeze out of us. I bet the prices don't fall as quickly when the price of a barrel eventually reduces. I'm lucky enough to have a company car and fuel card and feel sorry for all those who have to pay for their own fuel these days.

My old man owned a servo in Brisbane 20+ years ago. I remember vividly prices of 49.9c per litre in 1983!

With more and more cars going 'Gas' you can bet your bottom dollar that the Gov will eventually tax that to the same level as the common fuel.

it will continue to go up till around 2012 when peak oil will hit and then the Americans will freeze the remaining oil reserves in the middle east on the pretext of their military needing it to protect us all from the terrorists.

The “REVOLUTION BEGINS”, we silent major must stand up and demand change. For to long, politicians, minority groups and social engineers have had their way and have stuff this wonderful country.

For to long we have put up with Federal Tax (Introduced by the Hawk/Keating Gov) and GST on petrol (Introduced by the Howard Gov) which = 48.1 cents a litre. We as a society must say “No More”. We must empower the masses; we must tell them how much the government is s***wing them and enact change. Drive your car until it runs out of petrol, park it on the side of the road and walk home and don’t go to work and collect the dole and sit back and watch the country slide into recession. This will send a clear message to the politicians. They need people to work to keep the economy rolling and to do this people must be able to get to work.

The same thing applies to the Banking Industry. We should go to our boss and ask to be paid in cash, close our bank accounts and then take our money home and keep it in shoe box under our bed. With no one depositing money into the banks they can not slug us with fee and therefore can not make a profit. Here is a novel idea, what if every credit card holder and home loan holder in Australia refused to pay back their debt, what would the banks do; it would more then likely cost the banks more to recover the debt then to write it off.

Telstra is another company we must revolt against. They plan to remove public phones which is driven by the need of the public to have mobile phones. If you look out side the box, Telstra make more money out of mobile phone users then public phones (on an average mobile phone contract you may pay $22 a month and that is before you make a call. Using a public phone would only cost you a couple of $ not much a profit for Telstra).

Well it is time to get off my soap box and let the government and multi-national company s***w what little money I have left out of me, but remember “THE REVOLUTION IS COMING AND IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE.”
