Scorpius Area in SiiHaOiii

Here's my effort on the prawn, dark tower and other local stuff in Scorpius. About 11h Sii, 8h Oiii and 5h Ha with a SMC Pentax 200mm at F/5.6 and a QHY9 on a G11. Full res is here [1.5MB].
Thanks for looking.

Wow Marc that looks amazing and the large version is awesome! Great colours and FOV. The cluster seems to lie right in the centre of a big bubble. Thanks for the view.

I've had to come back and look at this image a few times. I wasn't sure about the colours but they have grown on me It's a very interesting image, Marc!

Way cool - I'm loving all this NB stuff that's being posted! I've been getting my "urban setup" sorted over the last couple of weeks and will be hoping to do something similar in due course.

A nice looking image with lots of cool colours. The cluster does seem to have blown off all the gas and pushed it away.

Thanks Rolf. Glad you like the higher res. Yes that's what I noticed too at first. I asked a few people about this actually because I couldn't find any NB version online that wide.

Thanks Rick. It's understandable and it took a little while to grow on me too.

Thanks Paul. Yes I was reading this cluster is made of very hot young massive stars apparently so may be the whole front/bubble is related. I don't know if it lays in the same plane as the rest.

Top stuff Marc. I'm not sure about the aesthetics of the colours, but heck, knowing how hard NB is to bring together will just tip my hat

Marc,

Can you please tell us what length exposures you used for the 11:8:5hr combination?

I'm taking a punt that the oxygen & sulphur exposures were longer?

If so, is there a way of "balancing" the exposures like a G2V star, or does it relate to QE of your particular sensor?

Thanks Rob. Yes, not your typical HST look. I guess the wider the field and sandy milkyway textures turn to deep pink or reddish if they're blue or yellow starfields.

Hi David, Sii where 30min exposures, Oiii 20min and Ha 10min. I had to go longer with Sii and Oiii. I kept increasing exposure time to get a better SNR. I actually did well in excess of 48h on these after a lot of trial and error, guiding problems, wind, seeing issues some nights. But in the end I picked the best subs. As far as color balance goes I usually do a pixel math to match all background ADU to the brightest channel then extract the colours in photoshop. I try to stretch each channel equaly and process the way I'd do an RGB shot. I also try to get rid of the greens but I always leave a bit in there as I don't like NB shot with just red/blue and brown.

Ha... Yeah. That 200mm lens cost me $60.00 inc. shipping from eBay.

Nice!
I got the SMC Tak 105/2.8 for $100, I love it.
Still trying to get a 135/2.5 for a decent price, and trying to get a mint Tak 85/1.8 for less than $300... thinking to go for a Samyang 85 instead
