Full frame (35mm) Flatteners

Having gotten hold of my full frame D800, it’s starting to frustrate me that I can’t really use more than a DX (APS-C) sized crop on my 80ED cause of the damn field curvature! I’m finding it difficult to get any information on these flatteners for full frame work.

Anyone here successfully using a flattener on their 35mm Chip (DSLR or CCD) and a 80ED? Any uncropped sample pics please?

Hi Meru, i have got an orion reducer flattener for my ed80 and gives good results with 5dmark2 although it reduces focal length

Wow that looks pretty good! I was thinking about buying that but just wasnt sure if the edges would make it. Is that an uncropped shot?

Make sure you get the associated wide T adapter and that you're using the original focusser, the Orion FR screws directly on to the drawtube and won't fit aftermarket focussers.

The plain Orion Flattener (not reducer) is the best I've bought and tested. I've also tried Televue TRF2008, William Optics FF4, Meade 6.3 SCT reducer, MPCC, and more on my ED80 with Canon EOS DSLRs and my QSI583ws. And it was the cheapest. Second best was tie between WO FF4 and TV TRF2008.

Yup the guys at Bintel told me that so I'll keep that in mind thanks.

Could you upload any pics taken with it? Cause I have heard good things about the Orion Reducer, and it will probably be cheaper than the WO so want to see if there's any noticable difference.

Because it only has 38mm of clear aperature so wasn't sure of vignetting. Do you have any sample pics you've taken?

Sorry, my cam isn't full frame so not sure about vignetting. Just look in the deep sky section here for any threads started by me since April this year. Pretty sure they're all using that flattener.
