Eta carina from 16-6-12.

Did a little test of processors in new laptop today, collected some subs on the 16th-the conditions were a bit watery. But managed 6 subs at 4 minutes and same in darks. This only a very quick PP.with no flats or lights.Just interested to see how DSS worked on my new laptop.

I notice many members use DSS and take stacked image to CS 3,4 or 5 and do PP on them in there. When image has been stacked in DSS-how do you make it a manageable size so it will open in CS5? these TIFF file are rather large. Will look at a more dedicated astro photo processing program in time.

At this stage was keen to see the results of tracking, and how the laptop worked.Any thoughts and suggestions welcomed. Not sure how to get rid of noise, even after blending darks and a dip in noiseware-still see a bit,but this is only a quick demo run.

At this stage,it is starting to appear I can move forward and set up gear and walk away I let it collect a few hours of data on an object.Looking forward to get -say around 30-40 4 to 5 minutes subs on DSO and finally get some sort of images.

Sounds good, have u given thought on how u are going to maintain the focus during this time ?
ie automated i guess if u want to leave it, so temp controlled like Bert does or like most of us automated refocusing using focusmax etc.

Marcus.

Hi Chris.

Good shot. Shows that everything is working ok.

I register and stack and do darks and flats in DSS. Then I save the final image and open it in Photoshop CS2. The size of the files has never been a problem. I do no processing in DSS.

Your new computer will have no problems with these files Chris. Glad to see you're finally making some progress with your setup. Many would give an arm and a leg for your location and facility!

Nice to see you imaging again, Chris! I agree with David - once you have your setup running smoothly, you'll be able to collect a huge amount of good data.
