You will notice that it no longer has a face dial. The visibly working movement is just too awesome to cover up. Instead by sheer fluke I had a 300mm glass domed lid from a Wok I bought which just happens to fit snugly inside the bezel and now protects the whole movement and hands. I may add some discreet internal leds to highlight the workings at night. I have kept the original face etc for historical records and the dome just pops out so no modifications needed to adapt.
It is now called 'PsychoClock' because it chimes at about 15 past the hour or sometimes randomly but surprisingly keeps quite good time anyway. The minute hand is loose on the shaft and does a weird little 'meridian flip ( or flop really ) as it goes through 12 O'Clock position. And it winds up with a big brass key and runs for 8 days.
I wanted SteamPunk and boy did I get it !! Chris's Grandad repaired the case without doing any strip and rebuild etc and it just so makes the resurrection perfect, crazed lacquer finish and all.
Cost, about $400 on the cheap due to 'family' connections. Value, Priceless !! for all sorts of reasons.
It sort of joins my old family to my new. Big credit to Chris, my 19 year old stepson for taking it on and following it through..
