Testing of the GSO RC12 is finally underway. This is a stack of 5 frames at 10 minutes on the PME (which worked without a hitch). Guiding was quite wayward, but overall not a bad start.

Taken with an STL11000MC2 darks subtracted only.

Feel free to tell me what you think. Especially how to get tighter stars using an STL and a long focal length.

Sorry Paul, just average for the FL and aperture.

It's not you....just a welcome to the world of "wanting better seeing"

An AOL will help, but ironically only if the seeing is good...and if the seeing is great...well....better still.

Pete, the seeing was pretty good overall, but I think my guiding parameters were the main problem. Or do you think otherwise? Are you thinking it is seeing related? Could you shed some more light on this? I know you image at that focal length a lot so I am more than happy for you to tell me which settings work best.

Seems pretty usual for that focal length and not bad for a 12 inch and STL.

Guiding seems fine in the shot so when you say wayward it does not appear to have affected the stars much.

Doesn't look too bad for guiding, but a larger, higher res picture always tells a different story.

Great image size too.

Thanks guys, lots to consider and review here. Perhaps it was seeing and I have some tips now to determine if I had it wrong.

very nice test .... guiding look good at the resolution you posted.
Have you used a flattner or the image is cropped ?

Answer to your question ... try to use an AO, for me.

No flattener and not cropped Leo. I will consider and AO for sure. Given your images I will consider this a lot more.
