Early morning observing at Terrigal 18th/19th April

Mainly for those on the central coast I guess..

I got a call from a guy named Max - him and his partner Ellen are marathon kayakers, and go kayaking at night on Brisbane Water.. so they have a great view of the night sky and an interest in learning a bit more about it.

They're interested in viewing the Venus/Uranus conjunction next week on the 18th and 19th of April. He has some 7x50 binoculars but that's it.

They want to extend an invite to any other locals to join them at Terrigal to view the conjunction. They're hoping to view Uranus, and to learn a few things about the night sky as well, like how to use a planisphere etc.

They plan to be at the skillion at Terrigal from 4am on both days, weather permitting.

I'll try to make it, it would make a nice photo opportunity at sunrise as well. I'll take along my 11x70 binoculars and tripod, maybe i'll take my scope.

If anyone else would like to come along, if you have a travel scope (ED80 or similar), it would be great and they'd really appreciate it.

Anyway respond here if you're interested.

Went out this morning, met up with Max and Ellen-Jean at Terrigal.

Quite sure (99%) I saw Uranus through my binos, below and to the right of Venus. Will know for sure tomorrow, if it's moved to being above!

Got some shots as well, will process them when time permits and post them later.

Was great to meet Max and Ellen-Jean, they're very enthusiastic newbies and might make it out to a Kulnura meet-up in the near future.

be nice to see the images Mike, but Venus might blot out Uranus in your images. i tried to have a look this morning but I was in thick fog.

Yeh i'm not sure, I left the camera in the car. Will go get it later. I got some prettier shots with Mercury and Venus and the incoming dawn.
