Fair warning, yanks on the way to Oz
G'day mates. Just a little note warning you that about 15 of us are coming to visit in April. We'll be staying in Coonabarabran for about a week and then heading back down to Sydney for several days of sightseeing.
We'll be getting together with Tony Buckley and a few other Aussies for some observing in Coona.

I'm sure we will. Our host, Tony, has been extremely helpful in setting things up. We'll have a number of large dobs up to 25" to use.

Hi David. That was through Gary Beal, I think. Did it work out for you? It would be great to meet up if our itinerary works out. We basically will have 4 days in and around Sydney when we come down from the Warrumbungles.

some quick translations of Oz colloquialisms:
"anyone thirsty?" = let go to the pub so you can buy me a drink
"we are outta milk for the coffee" = hop in the car and get some milk... and get me some beer while you are at it!
"god I'm thirsty!" = get me some beer
"lets go to th pub, it your shout first" = I wont be paying tonight
"gawd I'm tired, lets head back to camp" = ... not till you buy me a few more beers and listen to my lousy Aussie anecdotes

Wow what wonderful greetings all. I can actually understand many of them. I ordered an Aussie/English CD so I can translate all the different invites to have a beer. Being from Wisconsin and of thick German (and English) ancestry I should make the transition with little difficulty.
By the way, I've already been warned to watch out for this Ving character, but anyone who can come up with that many ways to say "let's have another round" can't be all bad.
Doug Adam's description of Oz is hilarious, thanks.
Here's the Aussie/English CD:

Hi Don!
You'll love coonabarabran, from all reports it's the holy grail of dark skies in the southern hemisphere (probably the whole globe!)
Are you bringing any scopes yourself, or just using the ones on location?
When you come back to the Sydney way, we'll have to hook up and have an impromptu observing night!

Bringing along a TV 102i w/binoviewer and possibly a TV76 too for wide field views. I'll also bring my Coronado Solarmax 60 filter so I can see what the sun looks like upside down.
I hope to meet some of the Aussie 'net friends I've made over the years from the Sydney area, including you. I'll email or call down there.
