Josh who only last week ruined our trip to Eungella by buying Baader film is upto it again he is buying a focal reducer only one week before the Transit and two weeks before our replanned trip to Eungella. He claims that buying astro gear has no relation to the weather. He needs some help with his perceptions of reality.

And to tempt fate on the last chance in our lifetime to see the Transit of Venus it is criminal

The Chance of clear weather is inversely proportional to the cost of the equipment, the desire to use the piece of equipment, the length of time after purchasing said equipment, and also inversely proportional to the requirement to fulfill, matrimonial, filial or genealogical requirments.

Where X = likely hood of clear weather
a= cost of equipment
b = constant (based on time of year and likelihood of la Nina, dust storms, burning off, etc)
c = desire to use the piece of equipment
d= time since purchase

If Josh sold the equipment then 'a' becomes 0. Because he no longer has the equipment then one could argue that c also becomes 0. What is the result of this.....irrational weather?

Or in another case, what if two members independently purchase and sell items? Will these actions cancel each other out?

To answer your question; you would think so but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. There is a high probability that the person selling the equipment is doing so to raise cash for a subsequent purchase. And then there is the Just In Case Factor. The weather will certainly be a bit 'iffy' on and off for a while until the seller finally decides that they won't make that astronomy purchase. Which of course that means the weather will clear up, and the seller will suddenly change their mind and purchase that item, which of course brings more cloudy weather. (the actual moral of that story is don't sell anything astonomy related. Besides you might actually need it some time later )

And of course there is the intensification factor. What if the seller sold to someone else living in the area.

It really is a no win situation except to shorten the misery and buy something just to get it over and done with.

Clouds form in the box that the equipment arrives in.

The bigger the box the more cloud you get.

The time the clouds stay in your area is directly linked to your desire to use said piece of equipment.

Clouds also form as a result of a build up of excitement as rare celestial events approach.
