NGC 6302, Bug Nebula - testing 123...

I have been testing my GSO RC10 AO-LF setup at home in preparation for the coming new moon weekend. I have never used it in the field before, so it seemed a prudent thing to do before I head out looking for darker skies. I did manage to mess up several different ways over a couple of nights, so I hope I have learned a few errors not to repeat

Here's NGC 6302, the Bug Nebula, at 2000mm focal length (f/8). Not a whole lot of data, about 60 mins L and 30 each of R, G, B. Taken from inner suburban Brisbane on a windy night and with only minimal processing. It's not a great image, but I think it shows some promise.

Thanks for looking and any constructive comments...

Cheers,
Rick.

Looks good Rick.

The scope does show a lot of potential.

I have a newly purchased GSO 8' that I am hoping to finally test this weekend.

Ross.

Thanks, Marcus. You're right. The small version I made for upload does look fuzzier...

Thanks, David. Hoping to get lots of good quality data this weekend followed by a processing frenzy! Good luck up at Leyburn.

Cheers,

For a test run, the result was very good. I know how destructive even a gentle breeze can be on longer focal length shots, so your AO is working well too. Good luck with the weather this weekend, and to everyone else.

Very well done. You've captured the structure and dynamic range very nicely. Good one.

Yep, extremely promising for sure Rick, looks like the wind was your main issue there, good luck this weekend, look forward to seeing what you get

I recon a bit of sharpening on Lum might help Rick. I think as long as the Lum is solid and clear the colour can look like crap

Thanks, Robin. I'll spend some more time on it one night when I've run out of better data to process

Hope you're enjoying the holiday!
