Hi Ron,

Recommend you only do it from the Google site here -
http://www.google.com/intl/en/earth/index.html

When filling out the agreement you might want to uncheck the boxes that include Google Chrome and
to make Google Chrome your default browser unless you really want that.

Google Earth does not require the Google Chrome browser.

Thanks Barry, that was one of the reasons for the post.
Why so many sites for google earth, what benefit does that site give me over the official site

Hi Ron,

If you type in http://earth.google.com, it simply redirects to http://www.google.com/earth/index.html

I agree with Gary
don't forget to untick the boxes for the unwanted programs.

Google earth is OK to download but try getting drivers for video cards. All the sites that come up first are only spam to sell all sorts of junk that has nothing to do with what you want unless you sign up.

The google.com download sites are the official ones (i.e. directly from Google) for the desktop application.

You have other official download channels such as the link to the Google Earth iPhone/iPad app on the Apple Store (which has its own webpage outside of iTunes).

The myriad of other options such as download.cnet.com and softonic.com are often third-party websites (unrelated to Google) that make money off advertising. I've found that it's usually best to avoid these because what you download may be bundled with unwanted "goodies" that you either don't need (e.g. random toolbars for your web browser), or does harm to your computer (spyware, malware, etc).
