Ngc5139

Still in the learning phase with all of my gear and processing.

This was taken with the following:

QHY9-M
OrangeBright 2" LRGB filters
QHY CFW
WO FLT98
AstroTech 2" Flattener

Lum 1x1 Bin / 5 seconds (20 stacks)
RGB 2x2 Bin / 5 seconds (12 stacks)

Pretty happy with the result as I was struggling with over exposing the stars. I was trying to do 5 minute exposures, where as with the stars, seconds worked much better than minutes.

Hello Sam,

Keep working at it! This is no doubt a challenging, but rewarding hobby. Your tracking looks pretty good, and that's really important. You didn’t mention if you calibrated your image with flats, darks, bias frames?

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks for the comments guys.

Steve, yes, I did calibrate with flats, darks and bias frames. One of the rare times I actually remembered to get those extra files.

The photo was processed purely with StarTools v1.2beta following Ivo's 'recommended processing workflow'.

Cheers
Sam

Re-done with 10sec subs

Redid NGC5139 with 10 second subs instead of the 5 second subs originally.

I like the detail in this much more.

Lum 1x1 19 stacks @ 10 seconds
RGB 2x2 19 stacks @ 10 seconds

Pretty good job for such short subs. Well done.

There does seem to be a bit of a green caste to the overall image. try dialing green in color balance back just a tad and you star colors will pop more and background will look blacker.

Thanks for that, I did notice the green cast but I wasn't sure how to proceed. Will give that I try

Thanks Marc.

As cventer mentioned, the second attempt had a green cast to it.

I believe this third attempt has taken care of this
