Just a quick run at this object, I did not plan to image this and had the FR in so the image scale is poor however this is my first attempt at a planetary nebula so I was pleased to see it some out at all...

John it's not all about image scale....I prefer to look at most images with plenty of FOV so you can appreciate the scale more....plus guiding at 3000-4000mm fl is incredibly difficult.

Ok then, I did not give these 'cause it was a quick'n'dirty but for what it is worth:

Imaging run was using the Canon 20d @ IS0 1600, 20x30s shots, NR off, at F6.4 through the VC200L mounted on the Sphinx, no guiding and a rough polar alignment. Moon was 3/4.

Calibrated images with Darks, Flats and Bias in IP2.75, auto graded, aligned best 10 and stacked in IP. Digital development and colour adjustment in IP then noise reduction in NeatImage cropped and re-sized to 50% in PSE.

You are too kind Tony - but I had to crop to frame this rigght and reduce image size to 50% to reduce the grain - I recon it would look better with the FR out.

I will probably have to guide but as the FL on the VC200L is only (!) 1800mm I might get away with 30-60s though if I accept a higher fail rate.

I will try it tonight if clear...

Interesting - I was wandering around the sky last night after having done 4 PEC runs on my LX200, looking for planetaries. I ended up getting anoyed with TheSky6 that I couldn't get it to just show me simply where all the planetaries are so I could go image a bunch.

Anyway, I should have thought of this one, it would have been interesting to try with my 350d.

One of the first successful images I took with my ST7 was of this guy:

I was always surprised at the success of the above image considering lots of things at the time. Wish I could remember the exposure times, didn't record them back then (was just messing around really).
