Brisbane - there's good news (but alas also some bad news!)

Good morning!!

Well the good news first - according to the Bureau, the skies in Brisbane should be clear from Sunday, 6 May, onwards with no clouds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Now the bad news - it's a full Moon on Sunday, 6 May, and being at perigee will be 16% brighter (Super Moon - news.com.au) than a normal full Moon!!!

As sure as the Sun rises in the east you can bet that the cloud free nights in Brisbane will coincide with a full Moon!!!

Mario, it's incredibly frustrating isn't it- I mean really.. does the moon hate Brisbane?! Last month seemed to be a rare exception after a very long time, but really! what is going on with the full moon and clear nights grrrrrr. A couple of years ago I was visiting some people in Warwick and she said *as she gave a pity laugh* "we always see a constant cloud band hanging just over Brisbane & feel so sorry for you guys." And then she proceeded to show me... it was there all right - just over Brisbane Sunny and beautiful where I stood that day.

Just so I can keep observing, I've gotten into double star observing during that time. Splitting close doubles is fun!

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the full moon. So I guess there is no point to it being clear then. Freaking crap!

What's even worse - it's a double whammy, full moon is also the LEAST INTERESING time to view the moon itself as there is no surface relief so craters, mountains, valleys etc are not visible to any good effect.
